A few frequently asked questions ...

 1) Is your clinic up to date?
Materials and techniques are constantly changing in dentistry.  Dr. Kovalcik attends numerous continuing education seminars every year.  Our clinic recently transferred to a state of the art computer system which allows us to have “paperless” charts as well as digital radiographs.

 2) Is the office wheelchair accessible?
Yes. All our operatories can accommodate wheelchairs.  The patient is able to bring the wheelchair into the operatory, they do need to transfer to the dental chair.  Please bring assistance for this transfer if required.

 3) What is your sterilization policy?
Dental instruments are heat sterilized.  All countertop surfaces are disinfected between patients and disposable supplies are used where applicable.  Our sterilization unit is monitored regularly to ensure your complete safety.

 4) What do I do if I have a dental emergency?
If you have a dental emergency, please contact our office (250-832-3626) as soon as possible. For emergencies after regular office hours, please call our office to obtain information regarding our after hour protocol.

 5) What is your payment policy?  Will you bill my Insurance Company?
Payment is due when services are rendered.  For our regular patients, we accept cash, cheque, debit cards, Mastercard, Visa, American Express and direct payment from Dental Insurance Companies. Emergency patients are able to pay with cash, debit card, Mastercard, Visa and American Express.  We will be happy to complete the dental forms required for you to be reimbursed from your dental Insurance Company.

 6) What is the office cancellation policy?
If you are unable to keep your dental appointment, please give a minimum of 48 hours notice to avoid a cancellation fee.

 7) How are fees determined and set?
The majority of our fees are set using the BC Dental Association fee guide which is updated every February.

 8) When should my child start seeing a dentist?
We recommend that children are brought in within six months of the first tooth erupting or by one year of age.  At this initial visit, we can discuss oral hygiene, as well as nutrition.

 9) Can I get an estimate for dental treatment?
Dr Kovalcik will use the comprehensive examination as well as radiographs to complete her diagnosis. For complex cases, she may also use dental photography and study models (impressions of your teeth) to complete her treatment planning.  You will then be given a comprehensive treatment plan which includes the estimated costs as well as the number and length of appointments required to complete the treatment.

 10) Do you treat patients with a latex allergy?
Since Dr. Kovalcik is allergic to latex herself, we certainly use non latex products and are able to treat patients with this sensitivity.

 11) Can she fix my child’s crooked teeth?
Dr. Kovalcik is a general dentist but is able to treat orthodontic problems in children as well as adults.  She uses removable orthodontic “retainers”, full brackets, and is also certified in providing Invisalign orthodontics.  After examining yourself or your child, Dr. Kovalcik will advise you whether she is able to treat the orthodontic concern herself or whether a specialist referral is required.
